case study on

Events are a huge part of what LINBIT does. They create an open-source product, which itself is a statement that they respect and serve their community. Their events, therefore, are a massive part of how they interact with their community.

I was responsible for the design and functionality of the event pages, social posts and ads until May 2022. It was a real hands-on task where I was expected to take control and authority throughout the project.

My first step was engaging key individuals within LINBIT in a brainstorming session. I wanted to begin with an open opportunity for people to state the relevance and nature of the upcoming event (because they aren’t all the same) so that I integrate the key details of each event into my design and the user experience (UI/UX).

The deadline for these projects wasn’t flexible because the events were held at predetermined times; time management was crucial to each event’s success.

As for the design, it was important to focus on the information the user wants to see. I put a lot of effort into the appearance of the site, ensuring it was engaging to the eye, but the most important thing was that visitors would visit the event page and see the critical information – what is the event, when is the event, and who is involved (contributing and sponsoring).

This recurring project really was my favourite out of all the projects I worked on at kubator. I got better at my design and project handling skills with every event coming up. At the first one, I wasn’t that experienced at designing and had no experience at all with project management. The consequences were crunch and an event that wasn’t 100% the way the team imagined it. At the last event I worked at, we only needed a fraction of time, still had a lot of time left and the project was a complete success. The additional time was spent on an additional Ad series and a short video to get me more into Adobe After Effects.
